Virtual university is the name given to online training destinations that help employees ramp up on the latest skills and techniques. These may include everything from touch-typing and grammar courses to speed reading and comprehension tutorials, but these are just the beginning. Virtual universities offer valuable primers on customer service, marketing, order fulfillment, and product distribution as well.
A lot of employers prefer the convenience of virtual universities over the hassle of hiring outside training help. Not only do in-person trainers cost more than their electronic counterparts, they also demand full company attendance and a significant work stoppage. The alternative to halting business in the middle of the day is forcing employees to come in for special seminars on weekends, a wildly unpopular move.
