Employee safety incentive programs are a worthwhile investment if you've had a hard time enforcing workplace safety standards. After all, it's impossible to police everybody a hundred percent of the time and employees don't appreciate the gesture. Still, safety regulations need to be maintained and employee safety incentive programs will help you do so.

How to Implement Employee Safety Incentive Programs

The first step in setting up a safety incentive program is recognizing what areas of your safety plan employees are currently neglecting. For example, your employees may not be wearing appropriate attire in the workplace (i.e., hard hats at all times) or perhaps they have been misusing delicate and possibly dangerous machinery. Once these problem areas have been determined, you're ready to design the incentive plan.

The next step is to decide what kind of behavior will merit a reward. Are the only employees who get a reward those workers who followed all the safety guidelines at all times? And who will be responsible for supervising the behavior and doling out the rewards?

Once these questions have been answered, you're ready for the final step in implementing employee safety incentive programs: choosing the incentives. The simplest kind of incentive is a monetary bonus you can tack onto the recipient's paycheck. Other options include online gift catalogs that offer a variety of employee gifts.
