FlextendWritten by Sierra Rein The Flextend glove is a type of therapy instrument designed to aid in the rehabilitation of wrist and forearm pain. It can help people who are experiencing pain due to Carpal Tunnel Syndrome (CTS) or general dysfunction of the lower arm, including the fingers, wrists, hands, forearms or elbows. Those who depend on the strength of the forearms, like tennis and golf players, often enjoy using the Flextend glove to increase strength in that area and prevent repetitive strain injuries. The Flextend system looks like a regular, comfortable glove attached to several rubber bands. Two of these strings travel from the center of the wrist to an armband located right above the crook of the elbow. When the wearer lengthens the forearm and bends her wrist back, the flexible bands add strengthening resistance. These bands are also found in between each of the fingers, to aid in developing strength in the finger flexors. How to Order a Flextend GloveIt is best to talk to a doctor or physical therapist about your particular pain and gain his or her approval for using this product. Some retail sources demand that a "claim submission" and a prescription from a doctor be obtained before a Flextend glove can be sold. It is also sometimes necessary to submit a claim to your insurance provider, especially if the glove is to be considered a "medical necessity." Once the "O.K." for the glove has been received, it is best to measure the distance from the base of the hand to the end of the middle finger in order to find out the correct size. A good fit can speed up the healing process, while an incorrectly sized glove can slow it down and possibly cause damage. An extra small glove will be for people with hands as small as 6.5 inches to 6.75 inches, a medium for 7.0 to 7.25 inches, and an extra large for individuals with 7.5 to 7.75 inches in length. Of course, make sure to specify whether you need a right or a left-handed glove.
