Refilling Epson Inkjet Cartridges

Refilling Epson inkjet cartridges may or may not work well, depending on the website you look at. The difficulty arises because of the configuration of Epson printers. These printers have the printhead inside the printer, separate from the ink cartridges.

On Hewlett-Packard and Lexmark, the printhead and ink cartridges are combined into one unit. This enables them to use remanufactured inkjet cartridges, which also place the printhead and ink together. Obviously, remanufactured cartridges cannot be made for Epson models.

Quality Compatibles

Epson compatible inkjet cartridges are in wide use. Made to Epson standards by third-party manufacturers, these products perform well. Cartridges are geared toward a specific model because the ink formulation differs among the styles of Epson printers.

Some online companies do not sell refill kits for Epson because of the risk of damaging the printer, which houses the printhead. Some companies insist that refilling Epson inkjet cartridges is easy because its cartridge is simply an ink tank. Practice is necessary, however. Avoid the "universal" refill kits; all inks are not alike. Each company, such as Epson and Canon, spend huge amounts of money on ink chemistry to find the "perfect" ink for their machines.
