Text Mining

Text data mining is not the same as information access or information retrieval. It is important to distinguish them. With information access, the goal is usually to find documents that suit the user's intelligence needs.

The typical procedure is like searching for a needle in the haystack. The valid information coexists with other valid information. Smart solutions will continue to focus on the interests of the user.

In data mining, an aspect of the mission is to discover new intelligence from the examined data. Another goal is to seek patterns across datasets. Just because an information retrieval system finds a document containing what the user wants doesn't establish that a new discovery has been made.

Getting a Grasp of the Situation

Text processing, on the other hand, aids in the information access process. One way this is done is by employing text clustering. This is used to create thematic overviews of text collections.

Correlations in the text are more naturally extrapolated to assist in query expansion. You can also employ tools that expand the standardization tool. Text data mining applications can be enhanced by exploratory analysis.

Challenges are illuminated by the goals of text data mining. One such goal is to find useful information and discover knowledge about a collection of documents. The other goal is to analyze transactions and find out about clients using the system. New opportunities emerge when users look beyond the search-centric view to see how knowledge can be approached in new ways. This can result in extraction of new knowledge and conclusions lodged in buried text data.
