Modern Office FurnitureWritten by Gregg Ruais Modern office furniture is known for sleek designs, lightweight appearance, and functionality. A traditional office desk is made from dark wood, which has a very formal and imposing presence in a room. It also has considerable bulk, whereas a modern desk is designed to occupy as little space as possible and not dominate the office. A modern office feels spacious and airy. Modern Office Furniture is LightweightStainless steel, glass, and light wood are common materials used to manufacture modern furniture. The light hues and visual warmth of these surfaces make offices appear larger, especially if the work surface is made of glass. The transparency of glass reveals the actual dimensions of a room. A wood desk, on the other hand, shortens the office, because people cannot see beyond the desk. In addition to the light colors, modern office furniture is made from as little material as possible. Desk legs are often thin, as are the work surfaces. As you can see, the emphasis in modern design is lightness. The less space something occupies, the better. Modern furniture is very simplistic, although there are plenty of desks and shelves that feature shapely designs. Many modern-looking offices feature artistic furniture. Modern office chairs also consist of less material than the furniture of yesteryear. Those bulky leather chairs are being replaced with ergonomic chairs that are no thicker than two inches wide in the back. The Herman Miller Aeron chair actually has a thin mesh back. The shift towards less material is due in part to environmentalism.
