With the introduction and widespread availability of digital format printing, a steady stream of new options in marketing, advertising, and promotion have been introduced. One simple improvement over past technology is the introduction of large format printing machines and improved materials. Improvements in digital format printing and application techniques has led to widespread use of more complicated image installations, as well, such as vehicle wrapping.

Digital Format Printing Materials

Large format printing machines allow the digital graphic production an appropriate display scale. Advertisers and print design houses can now print on high-tech materials such as self-adhesive vinyl and PVC mesh in sizes that are large enough to cover entire building faces. They can also print on materials strong enough to offer protective barriers, as often utilized in mesh scaffold screens or vehicle coverings.

Inks for digital format printing machines have likewise increased in quality and durability. Many solvent types of ink are designed for use in outdoor applications, and can last as long as three years (depending on the climate involved) without too much image degradation. Inks are also brighter, and some inks are highly reflective as well, broadening the spectrum of applications even more.

Vehicle wrapping is a process that uses the advantages of the digital format at almost every step of the way. The images are designed on the computer with a template matching the vehicle, and then printed onto thin vinyl with digital machines. Once the images are printed and cut out, they are painstakingly applied to the vehicle to create a seamless graphic image.
