FlyersWritten by Tara Peris Flyers are so common we often take them for granted; however, this does not mean that we do not absorb their messages subconsciously, allowing them to fulfill their role subtly. We may not actively attend to flyers on the street or at the gym, but our eyes take in a great deal of information throughout the day and we cognitively process much more than we can consciously draw upon in a given moment. Yet, our memories function in a way that allows this information to come to the surface when needed. Depending on where you live or your walk in life, you may have a great deal of exposure to flyers. If you are a student, you are bound to see them all over campus, advertising everything from theater productions to summer sublet options. If you are a doctor, you probably have a waiting room filled with flyers designed to convey information from a public health initiative or to recruit potential research participants. The Subtle Influence of Flyers Further, with today's computer technology, it is increasingly easy to design and print flyers. Depending on where you go, costs are relatively minimal and turn-around time is quick. The main thing to keep in mind with this strategy, however, is that you will need to re-post your flyers frequently as most public facilities clean boards on a regular basis.
