Mail Order Catalogs

Mail order catalogs have become a great source of respite, and many people report reading them while watching TV or talking on the phone. Even if you are not looking to buy something, it is often relaxing to leaf through attractive catalogs as a mindless and soothing activity. Further, with so many companies employing catalogs in their marketing efforts, it is easy for everyone to find a catalog that suits them.

Older department stores can tell you about the days of yesteryear when catalogs were three-hundred page tomes that documented just about everything to pass through the store. They were sent out annually and were the photographic equivalent of the phone book, occupying housewives for hours at a time.

Mail Order Catalogs for Everyone
These days, mail order catalogs seem to come every other day, and they are sent to everyone from college undergrads to 30-something metrosexuals or grandparents. Marketing folks know that if you can just plant the idea with a potential customer, he or she is more likely to make a purchase at some point in the future.

These catalogs are so common that they tend to pile up around the house, making for great casual reading. In fact, some doctors suggest reading them before bed to help with sleep problems, as they are innocuous material that can be easily discarded as sleep sets in. Further, because people are accustomed to hanging on to their catalogs with the idea that they may eventually do some online ordering, it is much less likely that they will be immediately trashed. The result is that they are a great marketing strategy for just about any company.
