Due Diligence Checklists

Due diligence is the process of checking out or verifying all information pertinent to any business agreement. That means ascertaining the veracity of credit and financial information, for example. It can also include background checks on key executives in a potential partnership.

Due Diligence Checklists Can Help

Businesses that are successful enough to look attractive to you as a partner are usually successful because of the people running them rather than the unique technology that powers their major product. In addition, if you want a relationship with a business, it is the people in the business with whom you will be dealing. Using due diligence checklists before you accept a new client or finalize an agreement can save you both time and money by reducing your risk.

What your due diligence checklists look like will be specific to your business type and your personal business ethic and style. Checking into the information that is provided to you in any transaction can result in the revelation of derogatory findings that you need to know about up front. This is clearly important if your potential client, customer, or partner has not revealed past issues, and it allows you to make an informed decision.

Credit Checks

One of the key elements of due diligence checklists is a credit check. Today, businesses run credit checks before they hand over just about any product, from cell phones to cars. The issue is protecting the business's assets or even its reputation. In terms of partnerships, routinely checking both a credit history and a criminal background search can save you a lot of grief.
