Out of the many types of vending machines that populate the world, we are most familiar with bulk vending machines. These bulk (or impulse buy) machines consist of candy, stickers and gum. They're just momentary amusements for people. I know I usually get a round gumball for the initial flavor. I'm over it in about three minutes. However, it's just fun putting in a quarter and getting your candy.

Bulk vending machines are great for people who want to be small business owners. They allow people to do work part time and get all the benefits of owning a business. It's a great industry to be in because it is recession proof. People love the supplies of bulk vending. I'm in my mid-twenties and I still run over to gumball machines and ask whether anyone I'm with has a quarter. It's just fun to see what color you end up with, or if you get the spider ring. How many of you know about the spider ring? That was a prized possession when I was in grammar school.

Isn't it true that kids are more likely to go shopping with parents when they know they can get candy or a surprise from a vending machine? There was an ACME grocery store where I grew up. I hated going food shopping with my mom. She never bought any of the sugary cereals. However, if I was good and helpful during the grocery shopping, I would get a little trip to the bulk vending machines on the way out. I usually opted for a prize, hoping it was a ring.

The Fun of Bulk Vending Machines

I don't know why vending machines are so fun. Children and adults alike enjoy popping in a quarter, spinning the dial and hearing their candy hit the back of the little metal door. I was in a very high security bank the other day. They had two bulk vending machines right when you walked in. I immediately asked if anyone had a quarter. I got a whole bunch of gum and shared it with everyone who was with me.

Getting involved in the vending machine business can be a great way for someone to make some extra part-time or full-time income. When you get started, you own your own business. Therefore, you get all the benefits of being a business owner. You get paid 1099 income, which is the greatest way to get paid. You become your own boss. You don't have to answer to anyone else and you can set your own schedules.

Purchasing Bulk Vending Machines

Granted, to get started you will have to make an investment. Some home businesses don't require a lot of start-up costs, but you will have to purchase machines. This can get a bit pricey. If you keep your goals in mind and do your homework before you start, you should be fine. Make sure you know what products you want to vend and where you will be putting them. This will tell you what machines to purchase and how many.

When you decide to purchase bulk vending machines, or you want to update your current ones, you will need to know what kind to buy. There are several different shapes to choose from. All of them are classics. You can get your basic globe machine. There are also boxy ones and rounded boxy machines. They have names like Round, Globe, Medallion and Southern.

Depending on the location of your bulk vending machines, you will need to decide on the kind of coin mechanism. The most basic ones accept one quarter at a time. However, how annoying is it to have to put in your coin, turn the handle, put in your coin, turn the handle, and keep doing that until you have put in the correct amount of money? With newer coin mechanisms, customers can put in one to four coins at a time.
