Arctic Silver
Written by Jessica Duquette
Artic Silver is a silver based thermal compound used to join CPUs to heatsinks or water cooling systems in order to decrease temperature within your computer. Thermal compounds play an important role in keeping the temperature in your computer down and thus expanding the lifetime of your system. Artic Silver products are the most well known thermal compound available on the market today.
Features of Thermal Compounds
There are many features to Artic Silver that you as a consumer should be aware of before making your purchase. This product is made with 99.9% pure micronized silver which maximizes the conductivity of heat. This unique compound gives off silvery green color.
In order to ensure ideal contact between the CPU and the heatsink, Artic Silver should be applied in a thin, even layer. The material will thicken over the next 50-200 hours and eventually reach a consistency which is designed for permanent durability. This product will not conduct electricity. Its sole purpose is to filter heat out of the CPU and into the heatsink.
Two Options
Artic Silver is sold in two sizes: three gram and six gram tubes. The smaller tube will accommodate seven to 12 large CPU cores or three to six heat plates. You can purchase this product at many online cooling system retailers.
