There's only one way to be certain that you're getting the best buy possible when shopping for computers. First, you have to do your homework to know what kind of computer will suit your needs with the minimum specs. Then you have to do some comparison shopping to get the best price for that system.

What Are Your Computing Needs?

Many people buy more computer than they need. For instance, if you use your computer primarily for word processing, e-mail and surfing the Web, you probably won't need a double drive for CDs and DVDs. You can probably choose a less expensive monitor if you aren't into any game more sophisticated than spider solitaire. Decide first what you want to do with your computer, then make a list of the components and options you'll need.

Now it's time to start searching for the system that best suits those needs. Visit several brand sites to find the best model for each brand. Then go to a site where you can compare those specific models with a side-by-side table listing the specs for each. That should help you narrow your search down to one or two.

Finally, search for the best price for that specific system at a site that lists prices offered by many different vendors. Don't forget to check auction sites as well, since there are often brand new computers up for bids. If you follow these steps, you can feel certain that you have made your best buy.
