Test Clips

Test clips are devices used to perform some of the most precise and delicate functions in a printed circuit board. While they are often used for a variety of tasks, their primary purpose is to redirect the electrical flow in a printed circuit board for diagnostic purposes.

When a printed circuit board malfunctions, it is often necessary to run a number of diagnostic tests in order to determine the source, size and solution to any problem that might arise. These tests are often administered by isolating sections of the circuitry, running electricity though them, and determining whether everything is working as it should. This process of elimination eventually yields the answer, but the process can sometimes be quite lengthy and tedious. Test clips help to ensure that the testing process itself is not flawed, and that everything runs smoothly.

Uses for Electrical Test Clips

Test clips are temporarily affixed to strategic locations of the printed circuit board, and held in place by their own spring loaded clamps. They can serve several purposes from this angle, the most obvious of which is to keep any and all wires and components out of the area that is currently being worked on. They also serve as a structuring device, breaking down the printed circuit board into individual, sectors and regulating the testing of each one.

Despite the benefits of using test clips for these purposes, their major function is to redirect and regulate the electrical flow while the printed circuit board is being worked on. Test clips are made in a variety of strengths, sizes, and shapes, each one compatible with a different type of component. The clips feature highly conductive tips, which is where they are affixed to components, circuits, and wires. However they are protected by thoroughly insulated handles. This allows the clips to be rearranged with ease, even when running diagnostics on a system as it is fed by an electrical current.
