Online Computer Training Schools

There are dozens of online computer training schools, and many of them fulfill different educational needs. Some fully accredited universities offer entire bachelor's and master's curricula on the Internet. Other online schools offer individual courses for people who want to learn a few specific skills, or become proficient at one specific software program.

The Pros and Cons of Online IT Programs

If you plan on earning a college degree online, make sure you do not waste your time and money on a school that employers will view as a "diploma factory." You may as well educate yourself for free at the public library. Prospective employers not only look down on degrees from phony colleges, they think less of people attend the ABC Internet Institute of Technology.

The National Educational Association (NEA) has a list of legitimate regional accrediting boards. Make sure the school you attend is accredited by one of these institutions. Beware of internet colleges that claim to be accredited despite the fact that they are not recognized by a prestigious board. Just as some schools are illegitimate, there are also some accrediting boards that are not respected at all.

Another point to consider is the fact that not all employers realize the legitimacy of the premier web-based colleges, regardless of which boards have accredited them. Some career planning experts advise anyone who holds a degree from an online school to not highlight the fact that all courses were taken on the Web. Many hiring managers will not even ask.

Many people do not necessarily want or need another diploma. There's nothing wrong with expanding your skills for the sake of it. Employers don't really care where a job candidate learned how to use Excel, as long the person possesses the skill. The same can be said for skills such as web design, PowerPoint, internet research, and many others. In summation, the Internet is a great place to seek technology training, but people should always be careful about where they spend their money.
