Ecommerce security entails many aspects of maintaining the integrity of a site's online business transactions. Fraud prevention, data encryption, certificate validation, signature verification are all components of ecommerce security. In addition, the implementation and maintenance of secure payment options and billing methods is also central to ecommerce security.

The strength of ecommerce security is reliant upon the overall integrity of the system. The public key infrastructure, secure sockets layer, certification authority, and additional measures such as firewalls work together to create the foundation of secure online monetary transactions. The most important function of ecommerce security is to address the primary concerns of online consumers, as well as those of the client.

Main Principles of Ecommerce Security

There are several basic concerns addressed by ecommerce security. The first and most basic is privacy. Customers need to be sure that their data remains private, and is prevented from being viewed by unauthorized parties. Another concern is authentication. Before data can be exchanged, both the business and the customer need to be assured that each is who they claim to be.

Once privacy is verified and identities are authenticated, data can be exchanged. However, there are still a few ecommerce security concerns to address at this stage. The integrity of the data exchange must be confirmed in order to verify that no data was altered en route. Finally, the customer needs verification that the data was in fact received by the business.
