Digi DatafireWritten by Clive Swanepoel Digi International's DataFire Remote Access Server, or RAS line of products, was acquired by Patton Electronics, who started manufacturing, shipping and supporting them in November, 2001. The DataFire line extended Patton's existing chassis-based RAS product range into the enterprise level server-based RAS market. Since the acquisition, Patton has continued to enhance and develop the DataFire line. Digi Datafire Remote Access ServerThere are two models in the DataFire Enterprise RAS product line: Model 2977 for T1/E1 and ISDN PRI service, and Model 2977/B4 for ISDN BRI service; both have fax capabilities. The Model 2977/B4 is targeted towards busy small offices that need up to eight simultaneous digital or analog connections. The Model 2977, which provides up to 60 simultaneous high-speed T1/E1 or ISDN PRI connections, is ideal for larger businesses that need volume faxing capabilities. These RAS products are easy to install and use. The RAS adapter is simply plugged into the PC or server; device drivers are then installed and ports configured to complete the installation. The cards are designed to work in standard PCI 2.1 slots and can handle a variety of applications including modem-pooling, remote access, advanced fax, World Wide Web and branch office internetworking. Advanced DSP TechnologyThe adapters feature advanced DSP technology, supporting V.90, K56Flex, ISDN, and Advanced FAX applications. They integrate well with a wide range of third party applications as well as Windows and Linux operating systems. Highly scalable, multiple Model 2977 Digital Domain adapters can be installed in a single server to accommodate increased numbers of users. Patton offers free software upgrades for the life of the product.
