If you want to keep visitors to your website from leaving before they find the information they are interested in, you need to make sure that your site is as easy as possible to navigate. However, this does not mean that you should fill your homepage with a lot of hyperlinks to other pages. This effect could backfire and the information that the visitor is actually looking for could get buried in all the clutter.

If you have a large number of links, you might want to consider organizing them under a series of drop-down menus. The various links to the other pages could then be grouped together by a particular category. The main categories can then be placed on a navigation bar, which is visible to the visitor throughout the website.

As an alternative to the navigation bar and drop-down menus, the website designer might want to consider using web site navigation buttons. Not only will the buttons conceal the long addresses that are associated with the links, they do so without taking up very much space. The buttons may be small, but they are the perfect size for the short precise words that should be used to label your links.
