College Placement

If you are taking advanced classes in high school, your college placement may be different than other first year students. This is due to the fact that your advanced classes might qualify you to "pass out" of a general freshman course. This is great news for the zealous student with a heavy course load.

Even without advanced high school courses, some colleges will offer placement tests for incoming students. These tests permit all students to take a qualifying test to pass out of a course as well. It's always in your best interests to take a shot at the test if you find a placement test offered in a subject you feel fairly comfortable in.

The Advantages of College Placement Exams

The ability to skip a class gives the student additional flexibility in semester scheduling. For the student who needs to work while in college, passing out of classes means a lighter workload. If you pass out of enough general education classes, you may even be able to graduate a year early or load up your schedule with classes that interest you!

Talk to a professional college advisor for help with college placement tests. He or she can give you information on which schools offer these tests and in what areas. Take as many placement tests as you possibly can. It never hurts to try.
