Few things are truly free in this world and a free online college is going to be hard to come by. Schools must charge tuition to students in order to hire quality faculty, competent administrators, and develop an infrastructure and degree programs. Online schools are the same. While the odds of your finding a free online college are slim, there are ways in which you can attend school without paying out of your own pocket.

Free Online College through Financial Aid

Whatever online school you choose to attend, there will, of course, be costs incurred. Those costs don't necessarily have to be paid by you, however. Financial aid is available for students. Financial aid is money given by the government or private organizations to fund education for students who cannot meet the cost of tuition. Filling out the FAFSA, or Free Application for Federal Student Aid, is almost always a part of enrolling in a school.

One way students can attend college with no out of pocket expenses is by earning scholarships. Scholarships can take the form of cash given directly to students to attend college or can be fee waivers. Scholarships are one way students can make free online college a reality. Applications will be available on college websites. Check deadline dates regularly to ensure that you don't miss out on free money.

A second source of funding to make free online college a reality is government grants. Grants are usually given by the government to financially needy students. Grant money, unlike student loans, does not need to be repaid. Sometimes you will need to fill out more than the FAFSA to locate all grant funding. Research grants are also available if you know where to find them, but more work is required for this money.
