Your interim year will forever be one of the best years of your life. The experiences you share during this time will build your character and help you see the world more clearly. The period between high school and college is a great time to begin the process of self-discovery.

The possibilities are endless! Travel all over the country, or volunteer for an organization right here at home. Whether snowboarding in Argentina or teaching English is Asia, the opportunities afforded to you are endless.

Taking an Interim Year

Ivy league schools typically encourage the idea of the gap year. The idea is that the student who takes the time to develop and learn about their skills and interests will be better prepared for a tough four years. There are many pre-planned gap programs that will help you make the best of your break.

Possible Disadvantages of an Interim Year

While the idea of taking a year off sounds great, there are some possible disadvantages. Many students fear that taking a year off from studying will make them rusty. Make sure you do your research and talk to an advisor before making any final decisions.
