Worship ArtsWritten by Jill Morrison Worship arts include all art forms that may be used for worship in the Christian church. Most art forms can be used as a form of worship as opposed to a form of entertainment. Art forms that can be used for worship include dance vocals, painting, sculpting, drama, technical work, music composition, and performances with musical instruments or by an orchestra. Uses for Worship ArtsWorship arts can be used to bring a congregation or Christian group together in worship. The arts have been enjoyed by artists and spectators for countless years. Art can be used as a powerful form of expression and can generate great emotion as well. Art can be improvisational or designed carefully to represent a specific meaning. Art is often inspirational, which is why it is commonly used in spiritual settings and for praising God. Worship arts can be used in many different spiritual settings, whether you are in a church, on a stage, or in the outdoors. There is a distinct difference between using the arts for worship and using art as a form of entertainment. In both cases, art can express personal emotion. However, when art is used for worship, the artist is completely focusing on God rather than for an audience or for personal glory. Many different art forms can be used to praise and worship God. It is common for churches to use musical instruments and vocalists as a form of inspiration and praise. Churches may use traditional choirs, soloists, and some contemporary churches may even use rock bands at their services. Some churches will also use dance or drama as a form of worship. Using the arts in worship can make the spiritual experience more enjoyable and powerful for Christians.
