Worship dance may include various styles of movement and dance forms. The only requirement in worship dancing is a focus on worshiping God. This type of dance is different from secular forms of dance because you are performing for God, rather than for an audience. Worship dancing has been practiced for thousands of years and continues to thrive in various locations all over the world.

The Growth of Worship Dance

Worship dancers are different from worldly dancers in a few distinct ways. Worldly dancers are chosen for their dance ability and body type. In worship dancing, body type and dance training is irrelevant. To perform worship dancing, your movement may be inspired by God, or may be dedicated to praising God.

Worship dance has been performed for so many years that it is impossible to say when it began. There is great evidence of worship dancing in the Old Testament of the Bible. The earliest mention if worship dancing in the bible is in the book of Exodus when Israel was crossing the Red Sea. When King David brought the Ark of the Covenant into Jerusalem, he also danced before the Lord as a form of worship and praise.

As years went by, many Christians developed a negative opinion of dancing. This opinion was created because of what the world had done with dancing. Many Christians still understand that dancing can be used in a positive manner and for worship. Worship dancing is performed in many churches and there are also Christian dance schools that teach dance with positive and spiritual methods.
