Nursing Chat RoomsWritten by Rachel Arieff Nursing chat rooms are online communities of nurses and nursing students who need informational resources related to the profession. "Chat rooms" refer to online forums in which the participants relay messages back and forth. However, chat rooms also commonly feature other helpful resources such as newsletters, calendars, online journals, and news articles. Regarding news articles, online forums commonly maintain a steady stream of up-to-the-minute news items, as well as a back archive. Helpful search features within the site are there to assist participants in their quest for articles relating to certain topics. The search option is also available for chat room threads. For example, if you're looking for discussions about Canadian nursing schools, you can type the phrase into the search box and be directed to all relevant posts. Using Nursing Chat RoomsNursing chat rooms also contain a great deal of information about nursing education. This is partially because a large percentage of chat room participants are students. Even experienced nurses often find themselves in advanced educational programs at some time during their career. Indeed, in a field that is constantly changing due to new theoretical understandings and technological developments, educational maintenance is a fact of the medical profession. Another reason for the high volume of educational information is the nature of chat room financial support. Many sites survive on sponsored links, an advertising method in which companies or organizations pay websites to include a prominent link to their own sites. Naturally, many nursing schools become sponsors of nursing-related chat rooms. However, chat rooms may also offer more objective editors' lists of recommended nursing programs, regardless of sponsorship status.
