Wave PlayersWritten by Norene Anderson Wave players, also known as WAV players, are used to play a variety of standard sound formats. A major advancement in the medical transcription occupation is the introduction of digital voice recorded dictation. This has opened a new way of transmitting, transcribing, and returning dictated reports. It is no longer necessary to manually transport a stack of tapes to a transcriptionist. The technology is available to use the Internet for secure file transfer as a voice recording and as a final typed copy. The choice of wave players depends on the volume of work to be done and on the features needed to work efficiently. The software designs that accompany the foot pedal either enhance the work efficiency or impede it. The design of the pedal should be comfortable to work with having all controls reachable without lifting the foot off the floor. The forward and rewind control should be easily touched with just a slight angle of the foot. Wave Players for Digital FilesMany wave players will play a variety of digital files in addition to the .wav format. MP3 files and speech recognition programs work great with most professional digital devices. The software offers many options for automated movement of the typed documents. It can be programmed to return the completed transcription to the dictation source immediately or it can hold it in a folder with stipulated parameters before sending. Working with digital files offers a great deal of maneuverability within the system. Applications can be programmed to open when the player is initiated. Most players work with all versions of Windows. If updates are available, many of the software suppliers will send notices automatically to keep the system operating at the highest level of efficiency.
