Every year, Bright Futures Scholarships help scores of Florida high school students to transition to college smoothly. By providing much needed financial assistance to exceptional students, these awards help to offset the substantial costs of higher education. All state residents are invited to apply, and as much as a third of the high school population will be deemed eligible for the competition.

The Bright Futures Scholarship Program distributes over 100,000 awards annually, making it one of the largest funding programs in Florida. The program targets high-achieving students in an effort to promote college attendance and career growth within the state. During the 2002-2003 academic year, it awarded over 200 million dollars in scholarships using state lottery funds.

Continuing Education

One of the most compelling aspects of the Bright Futures Program is that it allows awards to be renewed annually. As any parent knows, the costs of a college education accrue continually over the course of four years, making ongoing assistance vital. In recent years, as much as two thirds of each entering award class have qualified for renewal awards.

It is a system in which everyone wins. Students are rewarded for their outstanding academic records and are encouraged to continue their strong work throughout their college years. Parents are able to offset the costs of college while helping to produce competent future professionals. These awards are well within reach of many high school students and are worth exploring if you live in the state of Florida.
