Scholarship Essay Contests

Many different corporations and companies offer students the chance to compete for college scholarships through essay contests. These contests provide companies with a chance to give back to the community, and students with a chance to earn money toward a college education. In general, it's a good rule to only enter educational scholarship contest that don't require you to pay an entry fee.

The Ayn Rand Institute sponsors an annual essay contest that awards $1,000 to the winning student. This contest focuses on the author Ayn Rand's renowned work of fiction called "Atlas Shrugged." Students must choose an essay on one of several topics that address the philosophical meaning of this often misunderstood work of literature. The judging is based on creativity and comprehension.

Essay Contests for All Students

Houghton Mifflin is a publishing company that specializes in scholastic books, among other things. This company holds an annual essay contest for $1,000. Students from all over the country write an essay on the subject "How do you define success?" Every school that participates then selects a single winner to enter the national competition. Three winners are announced every year.

Other popular essay contests include: the College Prowler Essay Contest, Signet Classic Student Scholarship Essay Contest, Grandmet Essay Contest, and even the Optimist International Essay Contest. There are so many different essay contests out there today, it would be impossible to list them all here. It's important to make sure to enter a legitimate contest, and to observe all the rules and deadlines.
