Scholarships In Texas

Given the size of the state, you'd think it would be easy to find scholarships in Texas. The truth of the matter is, just like anywhere else, you have to do some digging. There are plenty of scholarships available, but determining which ones are most worthwhile can take some work. Time is of the essence and you don't want to waste it pursuing false leads.

It's relatively easy to find national scholarships online. A quick search of the Internet or a few minutes with a college guidebook and you're well on your way to finding educational funding. From the Coca-Cola Scholars Awards to scholarships from the Gates Foundation and others, national resources are plentiful.

Act Locally

When you get to the state level, however, things become a bit more difficult. Your best bet is to begin by consulting the colleges and universities to which you are applying. Get on their websites and search for any and all awards for which you might apply. Better yet, schedule an in-person appointment with an aid officer if you can swing it. Many families are able to tag this on to the end of a campus tour or interview day.

Searching the offerings of specific schools is probably your easiest approach. Alternatively, residents of Texas are well-advised to look at offerings in their local communities, including scholarships from churches, businesses, and civic organizations. Failing these efforts, you should contact a financial aid specialist who can help you to search for legitimate funding sources in Texas.
