Web based gradebooks are preferred by many teachers to more traditional grading software and for a good many reasons. Web based gradebooks offer all the benefits associated with computer grading software and then some. True to form, the Internet has taken a well-established idea and given it a new edge.

Web Based Gradebooks vs. Grading Software

When grading software was first introduced, it completely revolutionized the grading process for computer savvy educators. The idea of using the awesome calculating power associated with traditional spreadsheets and applying that to the student grading process was sheer brilliance. Suddenly teachers could analyze student data in a myriad of ways and all at the touch of a button.

Now that the Internet has become an integral part of our day-to-day lives, it makes sense that grading programs would not remain untouched by this technological phenomenon. What web based gradebooks offer are all the tools associated with grading software plus the kind of access associated with the Internet. In other words, a web based gradebook can be updated from any computer with internet access.

Another plus to web based gradebooks is that the data included can be accessed by more than one person. Some web based gradebooks can be set up in a fashion so that students can log on and look at their own grades any time they want. Even better, parents can log on if they want to stay on top of their child's performance in school.
