Long Distance Phone Rates

There are many factors that come into play when long distance phone rates are concerned. With the countless number of companies vying for customer loyalty, it is no wonder that most people become confused when trying to decide on just one. The following are just a few tips on how to concentrate on the rates that are right for you and your family.

First of all, know how many times you use long distance and to which locations. Are your calls typically in-state, state-to-state or international? How long do you spend on the phone on these calls, and do you usually make them during the day, night or on the weekends?

Most long distance phone rates depend on where the call is going to, how long the phone call lasts and at what time during the day and week it is made. Some long distance carriers charge by the minute, while others do so in blocks of minutes. Some have a flat fee for the entire day, while others give out discounted rates at night or during the weekend hours.

Long Distance Phone Rates Change Throughout the Year

Because heavy competition is always driving rates downwards, it is a good idea to do research on long distance phone rates at least twice a year, especially during holiday times when companies wish to capture the spending spirit. Just make sure that there is no extraordinary monthly rate for the low phone rate costs, and be sure and calculate your average spending each month. If you see a rate and program that might do better for you and your family, use your current phone bill to figure out how much in the long run you can save.
