When you use a prepaid cell phone, you may have to purchase prepaid cell phone cards. One element of phone card usage holds true even for prepaid cell phones, and that is that the more minutes you buy, the lower your cost per minute will be. There are, however, some things you should know about prepaid cell phone cards before you buy them.

Finding Great Rates on Prepaid Cell Phone Cards

One thing you definitely need to know is whether the card you are about to purchase has an expiration date. Some companies sell cards that are only good for 90 days while others have a one-year limit or no limit. Clearly, if you purchase a lot of minutes and don't use them all within a 90-day period, you could lose minutes which would elevate your cost per minute.

You should also pay attention to whether the cards are rechargeable and whether there is an additional fee for that feature. Finding out how you can obtain and pay for additional cell phone cards is also important. It's a good idea to go with a company that allows you to add minutes by phone and one that activates those minutes almost immediately.

Some prepaid cell phones and cards are loaded with attractive features. It's not uncommon to get free voice mail and caller ID as well as access to incoming text messages and free 911 calls. Look for a prepaid cell phone card that comes with 24/7 live customer service. Some companies are now allowing you to use their cards on their own or compatible phones which can be a great advantage if you lose or break your phone. You should also look for nationwide reception.
