A relatively new way to manage your Internet expenses is to purchase your minutes in advance using a process similar to buying prepaid phone cards. Some prepaid Internet cards allow you to access service only in the United States; however, there are several online that also offer virtually worldwide service.

How Do Prepaid Internet Cards Work?

Generally, you can purchase prepaid cards online or, in some instances, in local stores. You have to download the software, and you will be provided with security codes that you will need every time you want to access the Internet from your computer. It's very much like using a PIN to access your account at work. You will, of course, have to have a computer that meets minimum system requirements.

Obviously, the biggest advantage to using a prepaid Internet card is that you will not be charged a minimum monthly ISP access fee, nor will you be charged for minutes "over" your limit. When your minutes are running down, all you have to do is recharge your card by buying more minutes. Usually you will be able to access your account online so that you will always be able find out how much time you have left on your card.

One great reason to buy prepaid internet cards is that many of them allow you to access the Internet from almost anywhere in the world. This means that, when you travel for business or pleasure, you will never be out of reach of the Internet when you need it. You will usually have several months to a year to use your minutes. You will also be pleased with the low rates that are available and with the convenience when it comes to adding more minutes.
