When you finally realize that it's time for a new cell phone plan or time to get your first cell phone, checking out all the providers can seem a little daunting. You want to make sure you get the best plan for you at the best rate. Also, you may want to be up on the latest phones and get one with a camera or one that's able to stream videos. No matter what, you'll want to choose a provider you're comfortable with, as you'll have to sign a contract.

Rates and Features

As you start to compare providers, you'll realize that many of the plans are essentially the same. One might charge $79.99 for 900 minutes, while another has a plan of 1,100 minutes for the same price. You might automatically be drawn to the second option for obvious reasons. However, you'll have to look a little closer to truly compare.

As many companies offer unlimited mobile-to-mobile, many will charge a nominal monthly fee for such a service. In addition, if you like text messaging, some companies charge per-message or a monthly fee for unlimited texting. Then you have things like emergency calls. With some plans, they are included. With others, you'll have to pay a fee. If you want unlimited internet access, another fee will be added.

With all these fees, you can quickly see how the first and the second plans may even out. The first plan might include some features that the second plan doesn't. When you look online to compare plans, make sure you click on the plans that interest you. This will give you more detailed information as to which features are included, which aren't and how much extra features will cost.
