There are several ways to compare cell phones, some better than others. In many cases a new cell phone can come with a lot of surprises--it may have features you didn't even know about, and it may suffer from problems that you weren't expecting. It's always best to compare cell phones before buying one, to make sure you're making an informed choice.

The Best Ways to Compare Cell Phones

You might think that talking to a sales rep in a cell phone store is a good way to compare cell phones, but I would advise against it. I'm a relatively savvy electronics consumer, and I find that in many cases my knowledge goes quite a bit further than people working in these shops. They might want to steer you towards a certain brand or model because their boss told them to, and they may have limited knowledge of various manufacturers and service providers.

Checking out online reviews from customers is a great way to research the latest cell phone models. Nothing beats experience, and many people have been thoughtful enough to post their experiences online for you to review. You'll probably find some conflicting information, so just try to gather an overall feeling for whether a particular model is well-liked and seems reliable.

Talking to friends is always a fantastic way to research different cell phone models. Since most of your friends and family members probably have a cell phone, you'll be able to get information about a lot of different models. If you find somebody who swears by a particular model and service plan (and your needs are similar to theirs), you might want to follow their lead and try what they're using.
