Polycom Viewstations are a type of video conferencing equipment produced by one of the industry's leading manufacturers. Viewstations are available for many different uses (and budgets). Let's take a look at some of the different models and what they offer for the small and large business consumer.

Varieties of Polycom Viewstations

The cheapest of the Viewstations is the SP model, which is targeted towards small businesses or first-time video conferencing users. The SP still offers high quality video streaming, at up to 768 kbps if you're using an IP network or 128 kbps if you're on an ISDN line. It features high quality full duplex audio, as well as noise suppression, automatic gain control, and echo cancellation.

The ViewStation SP 384 offers a slight improvement over the normal SP model. It features the same video processor and streaming speed, but has added features like automated focus and tracking, as well as a remote control unit. Like the normal SP, the SP 384 is designed for placement on top of a monitor equipped with an S-Video input.

The ViewStation MP is the next model up, and it offers substantial improvements over the SP units. The chief advantage of the MP is that it can broadcast at up to 30 frames per second, which is basically the requirement for television-quality video imaging. The MP also offers voice activated switching, address book dialing, and a web-based presentation system.
