Clarion is another of the well-known electronics manufacturers that have partnered with Sirius satellite radio. Their offering to Sirius subscribers is their Plug and Play module, the Clarion SIRPNP. Plug and Play portable receiver/tuners allow users to enjoy Sirius either at home or in the car.

Clarion Satellite Radio: Design Features of the SIRPNP

Features of the Clarion SIRPNP include a display with multiple back-color options (green, amber or yellow), with easy controls for font preference, auto-dimming, brightness and contrast. Its smaller size (compared to other Plug and Play options) and streamlined "face" make it a good style match for many car dashes. Kits for installation--to hook the receiver to the car via a special mount, or to hook up to a home stereo--must be purchased separately.

The simple cosmetics of the Clarion SIRPNP wins praise from users for two reasons. Many feel the uncluttered design is an aesthetic plus because it doesn't stand out too much. The simple layout is also considered safer than more complex models: after a brief learning curve, automotive users found that they could easily operate the buttons to select favorite channels and songs without ever taking their eyes off the road.

Another big positive is the fact that the display is lit well enough so that it's always easy to read, even in bright sunlight. It also wins raves for its sound, clear and superior to FM radio. Installation is said to be relatively simple, requiring no more than a screwdriver and a little patience. Finally, consumers say that with the receiver itself available for around $99 and both the car and home installation kits selling for around $49, that the Clarion SIRPNP is an excellent value for the money.
