Telemarketing Compliance

Telemarketing compliance is strictly enforced by the Federal Trade Commission and the Federal Communications Commission, as well as the state law enforcement. When President Bush signed the Do Not Call Implementation Act into law, a whole host of changes took place in the direct marketing industry. The major one being that telemarketing companies could no longer just randomly call phone numbers without facing severe penalties.

The FTC Do Not Call List allows consumers to take control of who calls them at their homes. Following years of complaints from consumers who were tired of receiving unwanted phone calls from solicitors in their homes, the FCC and the FTD made some amendments to this industry. Consumers who register their numbers on the DNC List, can not be called by any telemarketing company, under any conditions.

Strict Telemarketing Compliance

Any telemarketing company that does not follow these new guidelines, faces fines up to $11,000. The actual person who made the call will be responsible for this fine, and can also end up losing their job. Therefore, it is essential that telemarketing compliance remains solid across the board in order to avoid these penalties.

Consumers can register their phone numbers by phone or via the Web. The toll-free number is 1-888-382-1222, and the website address is WWW.DONOTCALL.GOV. Once registered, it takes three months for this service to go into affect, and it will remain in affect for five years.
