Connectors for electronic components play a crucial role in the operation of any mechanical device. Without such connectors, there would be no way for information and other signals to travel from one component to another, or for electricity and other forms of energy transfer to take place. One of the most common connectors for electronic components is the co-axial cable connector. This is the kind of connector that is usually found connecting a cable television box to the actual cable from outside. USB and serial cable connections are ones that are commonly found on computers to hook up printers, digital cameras, and other accessories. Network cable connectors similar to those that telephones use are needed for computer networks in the home or office and for hooking up a computer's Ethernet card to the Internet. Firewire and optical cable connectors are also commonly found on many computers today for extremely high speed data transfer.

The audio recording industry is a field which benefits greatly from the use of various connectors. Whenever music is recorded, some kind of external device needs to be hooked up to a mixing console or some kind of recording device so that it can receive audio signals. From guitars to microphones, everything needs a connector.

Quarter inch and T.T. (which stands for tiny telephone, also known as mini-phone) jacks and connectors are among the most common in the recording industry. RCA, or sleeved connectors are also very common for instruments like keyboards or drum machines. XLR connectors for microphones and MIDI connector interfaces for digital music information data transfer are also everyday connectors needed for recording.
