GPS equipment includes the GPS units themselves, and the accessories that allow people to more easily integrate these systems into their outdoor activities. There are all types and styles of global positioning systems. They are now in automobile dashboards, on fishing and pleasure boats, and even on the wrists of cross-country runners.

The best way to figure out what you need in a GPS system is to ask people who are engaged in your favorite outdoor activity. If they are hikers or backpackers, ask them what functions they use, and if a few ounces or functions makes a real difference. If you are looking for marine navigation units, ask other fishermen if they prefer a color screen, or if power of sonar is as important as other features.

There Are All Kinds of GPS Equipment

Keeping abreast with modern technology is not always a value-add proposition. For instance, as cell phones become smaller and smaller, they become more difficult to use, and certainly to find! However, GPS technology is not overkill; it brings confidence to our outdoor adventures, and confidence means fun.

GPS units tend to range from about $100 to $500, depending on the functions and power needed. Everyone will gravitate toward the style that is right for them. The important thing is to read the manual, so that you are not overwhelmed by the product, and end up leaving it at home.
