Montessori schooling has always been a popular choice among teachers and those in the fields of education and child development. These folks have long known the benefits of experiential, hands-on learning, and have sought it out for their own children. In recent years, however, the benefits of the Montessori system have hit the mainstream, with parents from every walk of life becoming aware of the advantages of this approach to learning.

Evaluating Montessori Centers

The growing popularity of Montessori teaching has produced a number of new schools nationwide. Although this is encouraging for parents looking for quality schooling for their children, it is important to keep in mind that not all Montessori programs are equal. Indeed, parents must learn about the central tenets of the Montessori teaching philosophy so that they may observe potential placements firsthand.

This firsthand observation is recommended for all parents, as it allows them to see the extent to which key teaching concepts are embodied in the classroom. Learn about what distinguishes a good classroom, and then trust your gut when you go to observe. Quality teachers, adequate material resources, and good peers are essential to a successful learning experience.
