Aptitude tests should be fun and helpful for anyone thinking about starting or changing careers. Perhaps you remember taking the ASVAB (Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery) test when you were in middle school or high school--many schools do support its administration and see it as a great opportunity for young people. As the name implies, the military created the test and uses it to flag potential servicemen and women, but the results also point any test taker in a number of other directions that might ultimately be rewarding.

Typically, the most comprehensive aptitude tests that you'll be afforded the opportunity to take will come when you're younger. If you want to take one later in life, you'll have to seek out the opportunity yourself. The Internet hosts a number of reputable sites which offer a variety of employment related tests and profiling tools, and there are also career assessment centers where you can go and work with a specialist who will guide you through skills tests as well as aptitude tests to help you re-invent your work life.

Companies Use Aptitude Tests to Increase Productivity and Morale

Some of the most desirable companies to work for also offer a variety of tests and services to support employees. After all, the results of your testing may be a surprise that will lead you in a new direction that could benefit both you and your employer. The best and most dynamic businesses are always changing and evolving, so there are new positions opening up that rely on employees with natural aptitudes in areas that have not been explored yet.

An aptitude test is typically enjoyable to take. While there are some knowledge and skill problems that might seem a little like the SATs or ACTs, there are also a lot of personality and preference questions that account for your likes and dislikes, as well as what you know you want in a job. It's never too late to try to change career paths if you aren't so happy with the one you're on!
