Wedding Song Lists

Nearly every couple getting ready to head down the aisle makes a list of songs they want to hear at their wedding or at their reception. Some people choose these songs to be played instead of the traditional wedding march. Other couples have a friend or family member sing selected verses from a favorite love song as part of their wedding ceremony. These songs help put into words the feelings only experienced between husband and wife.

Some wedding magazines compile lists of the most-played songs at weddings around the United States. On these lists, you're likely to find classic love songs and songs from more recent artists. Who hasn't been to a wedding in the past few years where they've played Shania Twain's "From This Moment On" for the couple's first dance as husband and wife?

Parents also have favorite songs they'd like to hear during the father/daughter and mother/son dances. Sometimes these songs can be chosen because of the way they back memories of childhood, or they can be chosen because of the feelings expressed in the song. Songs you're likely to hear during one of these special dances include "Wind Beneath My Wings" and "What a Wonderful World."

Guests at weddings have songs in mind they'd like to hear at the reception. Some of these songs can be favorites from earlier years, or they can be songs that are just fun to dance to. These songs include "Bust a Move" by Young MC, M/A/R/R/S's "Pump up the Volume" and "Get down Tonight" by K.C. and The Sunshine Band. Other songs require audience participation, like the "Bunny Hop," the "Hokey Pokey," and that 80s phenomenon, the "Electric Slide."
