Wedding Sheet Music

Wedding sheet music can be found online by professional or amateur musicians who are performing at a wedding. Of course, wedding music can be anything that the bride and groom select, as a wedding is their special day. But if you are looking for music to play yourself, or are deciding what to ask your musicians to play, there are several standard pieces you might consider.

Popular Pieces of Wedding Sheet Music

One of the most popular pieces of wedding sheet music is Pachelbel's Canon in D. It's impossible to articulate exactly why this piece says "wedding" to so many people, but it is an undeniable phenomenon. This piece is lovely, delicate, and elegant; it was written for three violins and a basso continuo, but has been orchestrated for almost every conceivable ensemble.

Besides Pachelbel's Canon, the other piece to which brides most often walk down the aisle is Wagner's wedding march from the opera Lohengren. This piece is slightly more dramatic and more regal, and particularly suited to the sonority of a church organ. While the piece has become a beloved wedding standard, there are those who choose to eschew its performance because of some of Wagner's political and religious beliefs; this is an understandable choice, so if you or the clergy member performing your service is uncomfortable with a Wagner piece, rest assured there are other lovely options.

Wedding sheet music may also be for Mendelssohn's Midsummer Night's Dream wedding recessional. The Largo from the Handel opera Xerxes is a majestic and dignified piece which many find ideal for weddings. You should also consider asking your organist (if you have one) for recommendations, as these kind people often have music in their repertoire that is beautiful. They would love to play such music, but normally, no one asks for it because non-musicians have simply never been exposed to the canon of organ music.
