Event Tickets

If you've ever waited months at a time for event tickets to go on sale, you've probably had the following experience. After hearing scads of radio spots and seeing endless television and newspaper ads hyping your concert or sporting event, you get to the ticket counter at your nearby outlet only to learn that everything's gone--even those row ZZZ bleacher seats with a 10-dollar face value. Yet you were the first one in line!

For better or worse, the world of event tickets is now big business, and like all big businesses its market is vulnerable to manipulation. Venue owners and ticket brokers have discovered just how mutually beneficial their relationships can be. The owners know that brokers will pay big bucks for in-demand tickets months before the event, while the brokers are assured a steady supplier of goods. The consequence is that you, the individual ticket buyer, never have a chance, no matter how early you get in line.

The Event Tickets Market

It's far too cynical to dismiss the entire event tickets industry as corrupt. Most states have enforceable (and enforced) laws designed to protect against consumer price-gouging. Brokers are restricted from marking up prices beyond a certain percentage, though all bets are off for so-called premium events. Huge concerts, festivals, and sporting events open the floodgates to all kinds of reckless buying. Often, though, the market levels off, and tickets can be found at fair prices, especially through smaller online ticket sellers.

What does all this mean for you, the rock-and-roll fan or football aficionado? Sometimes, the only way to find the tickets you're after is to play the game and work through a ticket broker. The good news, however, is that the event tickets market is a hotly competitive one, so you're free to play sellers off against one another in your quest for the cheapest (and best) tickets. Reputable ticket brokers can be an excellent (and fair) resource for last minute or hard-to-find tickets.
