The Pittsburgh Steelers are one of the NFL's oldest and most respected franchises. Founded on July 8th, 1933 (and originally known as the Pittsburgh Pirates), the Steelers have gone on to win multiple NFL championships and to be a source of pride for Western Pennsylvanians. Because of the popularity of the club, finding tickets to Steelers games is not an easy feat.

Steelers: Past and Present

The most famous Steelers teams were, of course, the teams of the mid-to-late 1970s that won four Super Bowls in five years. Led by quarterback Terry Bradshaw and featuring the offensive talents of Franco Harris and Lynn Swann, the '70s Steelers were a force to be reckoned with. It's also important to mention the glue that held those mighty Steelers together: the members of the famed Iron Curtain defense.

The Steelers would be relatively competitive in the 1980s, but they wouldn't return to the Super Bowl until 1996. In that year, they faced off against a dominant Dallas Cowboys team that was looking for its third championship in four years. The Steelers fell that year, but they've remained competitive ever since.

The Steelers are still in the hands of the Rooney family, descendants of the man (Art Rooney) who founded the franchise over eight decades ago. The Rooney's understand the importance of their team to Steelers ticket holders and fans, and they do their best to field a good ball club. With some new offensive weapons added in 2004, the Steelers look good for the foreseeable future.
