Airline Miles Credit Cards

A few years ago, airline miles credit cards had a bad reputation. That's because many of these cards did not deliver what they promised and left lots of users standing on the ground rather than flying through the air. Today's cards are offered by major credit card companies who work with dozens of airlines. In addition, many of these cards guarantee that there are no "blackout" dates or flights, which was one negative feature of older programs.

If you're someone who likes to compare plans from the comfort of your own home, you will find a variety of cards and programs that will allow you to accumulate miles faster so that you can take advantage of free flights. Some cards offer you several points options. For example, there is usually a sign-on bonus, and you can often accumulate miles in ways other than by actually flying, such as by shopping in specific stores.

Some airline miles cards offer you the option of using your miles on flights, hotels, or rental cars, giving you the opportunity to choose where you can save the most money on your trip. Still others give you points for every mile you fly. I even found one that gives you miles for flights made by family and friends. Generally, you should be able to access your frequent flyer miles online so that you can keep track of how many more miles you need before you earn your next flight. While it takes a little work to keep track, free flights are well worth the effort.

Frequent Flyers

If you travel a lot for business or pleasure, it's a good idea to look for a credit card that insures against blackout dates. Other perks that some cards offer are the number of sign-on miles you earn, and these can vary by thousands of miles. Whenever you're shopping for any credit card, be sure to read the disclosures page carefully. That's the page that tells you exactly what you will be paying for your credit including interest rates, origination fees, annual fees, and more. As always, the key to a great airline miles credit card is how much it will save you compared to other cards.
