Financial Freedom

"Financial freedom" is a perfect way to express the feeling of well-being you can experience when bills are paid, there's money set aside for emergencies, and you have a clear picture of your future. Experiencing that feeling is well worth whatever self-discipline and sacrifice might be required to get there. This is especially true if, like so many of us, you've experienced the opposite emotions: anxiety over unpaid bills, constant worry, and viewing the future with dread.

As every adult knows and every adolescent has to learn, freedom isn't a gift, it requires something from us. If teenagers want the freedom of using the family car, they have to put gas in it, wash it, and keep their grades up. If adults want the financial freedom to travel to Paris, they have to work for it, plan for it and save for it.

Creating Financial Freedom for Yourself and Your Family

Foresight may be the single most important attribute one must have when striving for financial freedom. Those who focus only, or even primarily, on what they want today are likely to find themselves without the things they need tomorrow. Instant gratification can be fun, but not when you have to pay for it later with anxiety and panic.

To create financial freedom, you must plan for future expenses and start paying for them today. We've probably all been guilty of forgetting an upcoming insurance bill or underestimating what we'll owe for taxes. However, if you continually find yourself scrambling to cover unforeseen expenses, you will be greatly served by starting a budget and setting aside money for upcoming bills.
