Creating Wealth

One of the ways an individual can create wealth is to use the futures market. Before we look into the unlimited potential of futures, I want to tell you a little about the risks. The futures market is an often misunderstood marketplace. People come to the futures market because of its high potential but they don't understand the high level of risk involved. A couple of wayward trades can wipe out an entire bank account. To mitigate the risk you must become a well educated trader. Only when you have a solid understanding of the futures market can you realize the market's potential.

Using the Futures Market to Generate Wealth

In the futures market, one can use a lot of margin. Unlike the stock market--where margin is 50 percent--you can often buy a contract with just a three to five percent initial investment. For those who don't understand margin, it works like this: you can buy more product than what you have cash for. Basically, it is market credit and it's a fundamental part of the futures markets. Margin is what makes 150 to 200 percent gains easily attainable with futures. On the flip side, margin is what makes the futures market so risky.

If you are going to use the futures market to generate wealth you must use a disciplined trading strategy. Without a well thought out plan you will easily get wiped out. There are a lot of contracts available for trade. It is best to choose a specific area and focus on trading that. Once you have narrowed down what area of the market you will trade, you can begin researching strategies.

Knowledge and a disciplined trading strategy are still not all it takes to make money in futures. You must have the mental toughness to withstand what the market will put you through. Having the mental fortitude to stick with a plan in the face of financial loss is very important. Being able to put the past behind you and not focus on "what could have been" is a trait all successful traders have. Only by learning from your mistakes and focusing on the future will you be able to handle the futures market.
