Canadian Maple Leaf Gold Coin

Widely regarded as one of the most beautiful legal tender coins in the world, the Canadian maple leaf gold coin is also the purest regular issue gold coin available today. The maple leaf is made of gold only, with no base metals content, and is 0.9999, or 24 Karat gold. A truly national coin, it is made exclusively from gold mined in Canada.

Until the Canadian gold maple leaf coin was minted in 1979, the only regularly issued gold coin in the world was the South African Krugerrand. Unlike the Canadian coin, the Krugerrand is made of 22 Karat gold because it was believed that pure gold coins would not be strong enough for circulation, but the Canadian coin was not designed for circulation. Rather, it is considered to be an excellent investment.

The design of this coin is quite simple, yet quite beautiful. The obverse side shows a bust of Queen Elizabeth II designed by Arnold Machin. On the reverse side, there is a depiction of the traditional Canadian maple leaf. The full troy ounce coin has a face value of $50 Canadian. It is interesting to note that these coins are great for jewelry purposes because of the purity of the gold used to make them.

If you would like to own Canadian gold maple leaf coins, you will be able to find them online. They are, as noted above, incredibly beautiful, with a proof-like shine and intricate detailing. Dealers offer these coins at various rates, depending on the gold spot market. They are an excellent investment because they can be traded anywhere in the world and, of course, are always worth at least their face value.
