Party planning is a challenge for almost everyone. In fact, this is why there are entire companies created to help any host or hostess. For those attempting to plan alone, however, there are a few key points to keep in mind.

Party Planning Tips

The most successful parties are ones where food and drink are in abundance. If your guests are alcohol drinkers, be sure that you have enough to go around. A good rule of thumb is to assume that each guest will have four alcoholic beverages throughout the evening. Keep in mind that one liter bottle of hard alcohol will serve about 22 drinks and a liter bottle of wine will serve four to six glasses. This will help you gauge how many bottles of liquor, wine and beer to stock.

When choosing what types of food to serve, think carefully about your guest list. Are the vast majority of your guests adventurous eaters? Would they enjoy certain gourmet foods such as pate or caviar? Additionally, think about the theme of your party. Just as potato chips would not be served at a formal party, neither would fois gras be served at an outdoor barbeque.

It is often a good idea to purchase preserved foods and liquor ahead of time. This will save you from being overwhelmed in the store on the day of the party. Foods that need to be prepared and refrigerated should be purchased a day or two prior to your party day. If you are undecided about some of the items you would like to offer at your party, look for sales at your local store and create recipes around those foods.
